Re-written the list and been honest?
Good, but only if it is quite extensive.
If you only have a few items listed then you really need to go back to it. But remember it is not cast in stone and you will be able to change it and can change it as often as you like and believe me you will be doing so on many occasions before we are through. But you must not let that be an excuse for not doing an extensive and in-depth list now. In fact it is essential that you give it your best shot at the outset. Not to do so demonstrates a distinct lack of commitment and should be listed under DISCONTENTS as 'Lacking commitment'.
Do I hear the words, 'Get on with it.'
Patience. Rome was not built in a day and 'lack of patience' should be on your list. Beginning to get the idea?
Patience is one of the things you will learn and develop, or tolerance is. But for the moment bear with it.
If you feel the slightest twinge of irritation, either now or at any point, close your eyes and say, PATIENCE.
Then say, I AM PATIENT
Then say, I HAVE PATIENCE.
Then say, I AM THE MOST PATIENT PERSON IN THE WORLD AND BELIEVE IT.
And then congratulate yourself on taking the first small step towards self-discipline and doing, without question, what I tell you to do.
SO THAT'S ALL IT IS THEN? A series of incantations that I am expected to repeat over and over again, to myself, until I begin to believe it or until I get bored with the whole damned lot and bin it?
NO - WRONG.
You have just proved, to yourself, that you can and will do as you are told, if it will ultimately be to your advantage to do so and be for your benefit in the long run, and also in so doing you have demonstrated a willingness to help yourself.
Our philosophy (note I use 'our' because it is a shared philosophy and from now on is as much yours as mine) goes much deeper than that and is far subtler in it's applications and implications and becomes very effective as it becomes a natural part of you.
Repeated words, spoken either aloud or silently, to yourself, at a conscious level never achieved a great deal of any real value; unless you want to argue and quote such things as poetry learned at school etc. When I would then ask you, 'and was that easy and did it really, effectively, work?' There is a much better way than that as I will demonstrate and share with you.
It might not be a good idea to take a break now, before we go on to consider the mind and how it works and how it affects us all and is an integral part of my philosophy. |
